As part of my role with ECU’s Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS), I assisted in the production of a faculty spotlight video, gaining hands-on experience in video production techniques and on-set professionalism.
Under the guidance of my advisor, I learned key aspects of production, including:
- Lighting Techniques: I was taught how to properly light our subject, Tim, using LED lights to control shadows and create visual depth. We also experimented with colored lighting to enhance background aesthetics and convey emotional tone—an essential skill in professional visual storytelling.
- Teleprompter Operation: I assisted in setting up and timing the teleprompter, which was an eye-opening experience in understanding performance pacing. I learned how crucial it is to ensure that the subject is comfortable and media-ready, especially for those who may not have prior on-camera experience. Proper teleprompter timing helps the subject appear natural and confident, resulting in a more authentic delivery.
- Audio Monitoring and Editing: Throughout the shoot, I monitored audio levels using headphones to ensure clarity and minimize background noise. In post-production, I refined the audio using Adobe Podcast to enhance sound quality and reduce ambient distractions, ensuring a polished final product.
This project sharpened my technical abilities in lighting, audio, and pacing while reinforcing the importance of creating a comfortable and professional environment for on-camera talent. As part of my role with ECU’s Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS), I assisted in the production of a faculty spotlight video, gaining hands-on experience in video production techniques and on-set professionalism.
