As part of my Web Design for Communications Professionals course, I developed a fully functional advocacy website using WordPress. This project involved both design and technical development, allowing me to integrate graphic design tools, custom coding, and multimedia content to create a cohesive user experience.
Project Focus:
The website was centered around raising awareness of the dangers of vaping among adolescents and college students. My goal was to provide accessible resources, factual health information, and motivational tools for individuals seeking to quit.
Tools & Platforms Used:
- Adobe InDesign – for layout and content planning
- Adobe Photoshop – for image editing and custom graphics
- HTML & CSS – to modify and customize the site beyond default templates
- SoundCloud – for podcast creation and audio integration
One of the highlights of the project was producing an original podcast episode. I learned how to record, upload, and embed audio using SoundCloud, adding an interactive and engaging element to the site.
Design Principles Applied:
- Mirroring – to reflect user needs and values through content and design
- Social Validation – to reinforce positive behaviors and build credibility
- Psychology of Color – to influence user emotion and attention
This project not only enhanced my technical proficiency in web design but also deepened my understanding of how design choices impact audience engagement and communication effectiveness.
